Steve’s story

After serving for 44 years as a pastor in Seattle and in Hamburg, Germany, Steve felt it was time to pass on his clerical responsibilities to younger leadership. But he wasn’t ready to retire. So in 2019 he started his handyman business, working primarily with building managers in Seattle.

Mentored by an expert

Steve worked from 2019-2021 with Jon Courter, a sought-after contractor in the greater Seattle area. Jon provided a wealth of practical knowledge and trouble-shooting tips.

Steve’s clients appreciate the fact that he is meticulous and careful. He listens attentively to understand exactly what the client prefers. And his years of clerical and academic work have honed his problem solving skills. He loves to repurpose old materials whenever possible.

Second location

Steve and his wife, Karen, are part-time residents in Park City, Utah. This summer Steve has decided to hang out his shingle locally and test the waters for one month. Business license in hand, Steve is ready to take on projects in Park City during the month of June, 2025. If it goes well, he plans to return for another month of work in October, 2025.

“Most notably, Steve is passionate and friendly, two of the best qualities a human being can possess. Working side by side with Steve on projects was always a joy!”

Jon Courter, General Contactor

“I hired Steve to design and build a privacy fence around our trash and recycling bins. It was a job that required thinking outside the box, as it involved securing to a rock retaining wall. I was very pleased with the final product. It turned out exactly as I had hoped.”

About my rates

I charge an hourly rate between $70-$85, depending upon the nature of the project.

I generally do not offer bids, but I provide a ballpark figure on how long a job will take. Also, please note that as a handyman, Utah law does not allow me to accept jobs that exceed $3000 in revenue.

For those on a fixed income, feel free to inquire about my discount rate for households with limited means.

I accept payment after completion of the job by check, Venmo or Zelle.

A few examples of Steve’s work

deck1
This client wanted to use the old cedar 2×6’s as much as possible. I took up the old deck boards, replaced the failing joists with pressure treated lumber, then flipped the good deck boards to offer the best surface possible. I then added new 2×6’s where necessary.

I also added a stairway for safe access.

Note that I was able to reuse the old pickets.
After staining, you can’t tell the difference between the new lumber and the repurposed lumber.
walk1
This client needed to add a wheelchair accessible entrance. We graded the entry, built the forms and installed appropriate drainage, then had a concrete company pour the walk.

After the paving, I set the poles and railings (not yet shown in this picture), making it thoroughly ADA compliant.
